School Equality Information and Objectives

Stretton Sugwas Church of England Academy

Reviewed: Autumn 2025
Mr B Caldicott, Executive Headteacher

At Stretton Sugwas Church of England Academy, we are proud to be an inclusive, nurturing and respectful school community where every child and adult is valued. Our Christian vision of ‘Bee’long, ‘Bee’lieve and ‘Bee’have’ underpins everything we do and shapes the way we care for, support and respect one another. We believe that each bee plays a part in the hive and that everyone has value, purpose and potential.

We actively celebrate individuality and promote a culture where diversity is embraced and everyone feels safe, welcome and able to thrive – regardless of race, gender, disability, sexuality, religion or belief, or any other characteristic. Our vision and values are reflected in our high expectations for behaviour, effort and kindness. We listen carefully to the views of pupils, parents and staff and use these to help shape our inclusive culture.

The Legal Context

The Equality Act 2010 brings together previous equality legislation and aims to protect people from discrimination, harassment and victimisation. It requires schools to eliminate discrimination, advance equality of opportunity and foster good relations across the following protected characteristics:

  • Age
  • Disability
  • Gender reassignment
  • Marriage and civil partnership
  • Pregnancy and maternity
  • Race
  • Religion or belief
  • Sex
  • Sexual orientation

Our Aims

In line with the Public Sector Equality Duty, Stretton Sugwas Church of England Academy aims to:

  • Eliminate discrimination by ensuring our policies, practices and school culture are inclusive and promote fairness, dignity and respect.
  • Advance equality of opportunity by identifying and removing barriers to learning and participation so all pupils can succeed, particularly those with protected characteristics.
  • Foster good relations by promoting understanding, respect and positive relationships within our school and wider community.

Our commitment to equality is embedded within our Christian vision. We encourage pupils to belong, believe in themselves and others, and behave with compassion, integrity and respect.
